How to Take Care of Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is often grown indoors away from pests.
Thank you for buying our trays of wheatgrass we welcome you to a new age of health and well being

Wheatgrass contains various minerals, amino acids and vitamins, making it a very nutritious means for removing toxins as well as a decorative addition to your indoor garden. Wheatgrass can be used in a variety of ways, including poultices, tea and juice. The blades grow quickly and can be harvested within seven to 10 days. The plant does not need a lot of sunlight but requires careful heat and moisture maintenance to produce a healthy plant.

Looking After Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass likes to grow in a cool, airy place with good natural light and not in direct sunlight. If you could imagine a shady place under a tree, that¿s the ideal environment. Please be mindful of keeping wheatgrass outside as all animals/ pets love eating it, especially birds. Keep your wheat grass away from a) Heat , such as ovens, toasters, display lights b) Dark Corners C) Public. People love to touch the grass which is not hygienically healthy.

Misting your Wheatgrass

Mist your plants twice a day using a spray bottle. You may need to water the plant more or less often based on its environment. Check the soil or root system and water as needed to keep the roots from drying out.

Maintaining the Balance

Maintain the balance of moisture and air circulation to avoid mold. It is better to have the plant a little dry than overly wet. Use a watering combination of 1 tablespoon of baking soda to a gallon of water to help inhibit any mold. Move the plant when necessary to increase the air circulation.

Harvesting your Wheatgrass

Harvest the plant when the blades are at least 17.78 Centimetres tall. Cut the blade at the soil line. If you are not using the wheatgrass immediately after cutting, store the blades in a cool place, such as a refrigerator, up to seven to nine days.

The Benefits of Wheatgrass
Excerpts from The Wheatgrass Book by Ann Wigmore

> Increases red blood-cell count and lowers blood pressure. It cleanses the blood, organs and gastrointestinal tract of debris. Wheatgrass also stimulates metabolism and the body¿s enzyme systems by enriching the blood. It also aids in reducing blood pressure by dilating the blood pathways throughout the body.
> Stimulates the thyroid gland, correcting obesity, indigestion, and a host of other complaints.
> Restores alkalinity to the blood. The juice’s abundance of alkaline minerals helps reduce over-acidity in the blood. It can be used to relieve many internal pains, and has been used successfully to treat peptic ulcers, ulcerative colitis, constipation, diarrhea, and other complaints of the gastrointestinal tract.
> Is a powerful detoxifier, and liver and blood protector. The enzymes and amino acids found in wheatgrass can protect us from carcinogens like no other food or medicine. It strengthens our cells, detoxifies the liver and bloodstream, and chemically neutralizes environmental pollutants.
> Fights tumours and neutralizes toxins. Recent studies show that wheatgrass juice has a powerful ability to fight tumours without the usual toxicity of drugs that also inhibit cell-destroying agents. The many active compounds found in grass juice cleanse the blood and neutralize and digest toxins in our cells.
> Contains beneficial enzymes. Whether you have a cut finger you want to heal or you desire to lose five pounds…enzymes must do the actual work. The life and abilities of the enzymes found naturally in our bodies can be extended if we help them from the outside by adding exogenous enzymes, like the ones found in wheatgrass juice. Don’t cook it. We can only get the benefits of the many enzymes found in grass by eating it uncooked. Cooking destroys 100 percent of the enzymes in food.
> Has remarkable similarity to our own blood. The second important nutritional aspect of chlorophyll is its remarkable similarity to haemoglobin, the compound that carries oxygen in the blood. Dr. Yoshihide Hagiwara, president of the Hagiwara Institute of Health in Japan, is a leading advocate for the use of grass as food and medicine. He reasons that since chlorophyll is soluble in fat particles, and fat particles are absorbed directly into the blood via the lymphatic system, that chlorophyll can also be absorbed in this way. In other words, when the “blood” of plants is absorbed in humans it is transformed into human blood, which transports nutrients to every cell of the body.
> When used as a rectal implant, reverses damage from inside the lower bowel. An implant is a small amount of juice held in the lower bowel for about 20 minutes. In the case of illness, wheatgrass implants stimulate a rapid cleansing of the lower bowel and draw out accumulations of debris.
> Externally applied to the skin can help eliminate itching almost immediately.
> Will soothe sunburned skin and act as a disinfectant. Rubbed into the scalp before a shampoo, it will help mend damaged hair and alleviate itchy, scaly, scalp conditions.
> Is soothing and healing for cuts, burns, scrapes, rashes, poison ivy, athlete’s foot, insect bites, boils, sores, open ulcers, tumours, and so on. Use as a poultice and replace every two to four hours.
> Works as a sleep aide. Merely place a tray of living wheatgrass near the head of your bed. It will enhance the oxygen in the air and generate healthful negative ions to help you sleep more soundly.
> Enhances your bath. Add some to your bath water and settle in for a nice, long soak.
> Sweetens the breath and firms up and tightens gums. Just gargle with the juice.
> Neutralizes toxic substances like cadmium, nicotine, strontium, mercury, and polyvinyl chloride.
> Offers the benefits of a liquid oxygen transfusion since the juice contains liquid oxygen. Oxygen is vital to many body processes: it stimulates digestion (the oxidation of food), promotes clearer thinking (the brain utilizes 25% of the body’s oxygen supply), and protects the blood against anaerobic bacteria. Cancer cells cannot exist in the presence of oxygen.
> Turns gray hair to its natural colour again and greatly increases energy levels when consumed daily.
> Is a beauty treatment that slows down the aging process when the juice is consumed. Wheatgrass will cleanse your blood and help rejuvenate aging cells, slowing the aging process way down, making you feel more alive right away. It will help tighten loose and sagging skin.
> Lessens the effects of radiation. One enzyme found in wheatgrass, SOD, lessens the effects of radiation and acts as an anti-inflammatory compound that may prevent cellular damage following heart attacks or exposure to irritants.
Restores fertility and promotes youthfulness.
> Can double your red blood cell count just by soaking in it. Renowned nutritionist Dr. Bernard Jensen found that no other blood builders are superior to green juices and wheatgrass. In his book Health Magic Through Chlorophyll from Living Plant Life he mentions several cases where he was able to double the red blood cell count in a matter of days merely by having patients soak in a chlorophyll-water bath. Blood building results occur even more rapidly when patients drink green juices and wheatgrass regularly.
The Truth about Chemotherapy – Johns Hopkinsafter years of telling people chemotherapy is the only way to try (¿try¿, being the key word) to eliminate cancer, Johns Hopkins is finally starting to tell you there is an alternative way to prevent it and treat it.
Juicing vs. Blending: Which One Is Better?Which is better: juicing or blending? Does one offer more health benefits than the other? Juices and smoothies both play an important role in any wellness program and we discuss the benefits of each in both of our films, Food Matters and Hungry For Change. We believe that both juicing and blending are very beneficial, but in different ways.

Benefits of Wheatgrass

The Benefits of Wheatgrass Juice

Wheatgrass juice is extremely bio available. This occurs because wheatgrass requires 50 times more pressure to juice than other fruits and vegetables. This force pulverizes the cellular structures and expresses out miniscule nutritional elements. The benefit of these tiny nutritional elements is that they are easy for the body to assimilate.

When you drink high quality wheatgrass juice, your body may produce spectacular results such as:

A physical and mental sense of well-being
More energy and better sleep
Stronger immune system
Detoxification on a cellular level
Reduced inflammation in the entire body
Lessened appetite cravingsIncreased mental clarity
Steadier nerves
Improved eyesight and night vision
You suddenly start accomplishing more every day
Actively engaging in and enjoying activities you had been dreading in the past
Visually seeing results via live blood cell analysis such as the unclumping of oxygen-carrying red blood cells and much more…
Our wheatgrass juice is potent because it is raw and living. Many of the products available to us today have been denatured through drying, oxidation, irradiation, pasteurization, bottling, canning, etc. Be careful to avoid products that show the right ingredients but have a format that has traded the living energy of the food for shelf life.

Why Is Wheatgrass Juice So Good For You?

Our history with wheatgrass juice dates back into the 1970’s. As part of a group of early adopters, we were attending sprouting user groups and travelling across Africa learning and sharing information. We can say with absolute certainty that the juice can do incredible things for people and also say with absolute certainty that we do not know why. Over the years, wheatgrass juice has developed a large following of people who have seen and experienced the benefits. Exciting results and genuine enthusiasm have created a number of bold statements about why wheatgrass juice is so good; including:

1 fl. oz. of wheatgrass juice is equivalent to 2½ pounds of the choicest vegetables
wheatgrass is mineral rich and contains 92 minerals needed by the body
it is a complete protein containing 20+ amino acids and has higher protein densities than any other food source
the magic is in the enzymes with more than 30 found in the juice
the juice is 70% chlorophyll and since the chlorophyll molecule is virtually identical to haemoglobin (red blood cells that carry oxygen), wheatgrass juice will oxygenate your body
an as of yet unidentified, tiny molecule is responsible for the positive effects
For the most part, these statements have been hypotheses not facts. Further developments have shown some of them to be partially or even entirely inaccurate. Although the explanations have not always stood up to rigorous scrutiny, the good intentions of the people, their experiences, and the benefits derived from the use of wheatgrass juice have never been in question. Although we do not understand the mechanics, you have got to get this juice, should certainly have high expectations and are advised to just be your own best observer as your body will know what to do with it.

The Reasons That Resonate With Us

There is a much discussion today about good health and body chemistry. This has spawned a broad movement toward achieving balanced pH. For most, this means consuming more foods that produce alkalizing effects and less foods that create acidifying effects. The rationale dates back to work done by Dr. Otto Heinrich Warburg who in 1931 was awarded the Nobel prize in Physiology / Medicine. Dr. Warburg looked at a complex relationship between acidic body chemistry, toxicity (caused by fermenting sugars), low oxygen states and corresponding sub-optimal performance of the body.

When pH Balanced » The Body Performs Optimally

Since most of us develop an acidic body chemistry over time, we need alkalizing foods to restore pH balance. Wheatgrass juice is a powerful alkalizer. It is also a preferred food because it seems to possess the ability to single-handedly change people’s body chemistry when used in sufficient amounts. As a result, it is exactly the kind of food needed to help jump start the processes of the body. It is also the perfect food to consume when life’s challenges (like travelling for work) get in the way of the lifestyle choices you prefer. For many, consuming wheatgrass juice is like have a license to exist in the world around us.

It is important to note that we don’t want our bodies to be either alkaline or acidic; rather, we are trying to achieve balance. We love our wheatgrass juice; but don’t think it appropriate to live on it alone. You can help your body build a solid long term foundation by using some wheatgrass juice and making great choices at the grocery store.

News24, Dr Andreas te Reh

In News24 (2005) Prof W. Serfontein was quoted as saying that sooner or later medical doctors must change their attitude about food intake and maintenance of good health. This concept of nutrition should be approached scientifically and this is starting to take shape in Europe and now, finally, South Africa as well.

Western diseases, global obesity, and a great number of serious complications caused by industrialised food and our environment are, in my opinion, not addressed sufficiently by medication alone. The fact remains that the training for medical doctors in matters of nutrition is not sufficient.

When I came into contact with the research of Dr Wolf Funfack and started attending his training in Germany, the success of my own work and welfare of my patients was undeniable, thanks to the revolutionary Metabolic Balance Programme®. This nutritional programme is not only a powerful and preventative approach to common diseases, but also a scientific way to achieve and maintain excellent health without the use of any medication.

Earlier this year, I had the chance to discuss nutrition and health with a medical professor who mentioned the healing powers of wheatgrass. Yes, there are a lot of testimonials on the internet about the many health benefits of wheatgrass, but I was interested in actual and sustainable proof.

I visited the Springreen Wheatgrass farm in Midrand to see the quality of natural, nongenetically – modified farming with my own eyes. Since that visit, the results I have experienced are by far better than I could have expected. Increased energy, vastly improved tissue and joint conditions, acid control, a greater level of alertness, change of hair colour (my grey hair turned darker! Fountain of youth?), reduced gastrointestinal satiety(??) and an overall feeling of excellent health, just to mention a few of the many benefits that I have either experienced personally or witnessed.

My normal workday is somewhat between ten to twelve hours daily, plus an average of fifty to sixty kilometres of marathon running per week- and all of that is done with ease since wheatgrass has become part of my daily food intake.

Since gluten is found in wheat grains and not wheatgrass this is no reason for concern. The clean farming of Springreen Wheatgrass is surely a source of excellent nutrition. Everyone who is interested in good health (and boundless energy) should start making wheatgrass a part of their food intake.
